Not pictured below, Gibson has released a short scale version of the popular Thunderbird bass here - while Fender Japan has released - along with their full and medium scalers - a short scale version of their iconic 1962 Jazz Bass replica here. Epiphone reissued many of the EB series basse in resent years, I liked the EB-1, it came in both fretless & with frets. Up until Gibson introduced their SG Bass, they hadn't produced a short scale bass for years. Overall, the neck is straight, frets are in good shape, the electronics and pickups are original. Even after they came out with long scale basses, they were 34.5" long, a half an inch longer than Fender so they would be different. This bass was once owned and played by the bass player in Vancouver legendary punk band SNFU, as evidenced by the tag on the original case handle. Gibson would not copy him, so they came up with their own short scale, which they thought would be more appealing to guitar players. Dont be fooled by its size, this is more than a student or alternative bass It is a short-scale with classic Gibson styling and tone outfitted for players who may have shorter arms, smaller hands, or who want to escape the typical bass scale in favor of something closer to a 6-string guitar. Leo Fender hit the perfect scale length for bass, for not being a guitar player, that was amazing. There was a rivalry between Gibson & Fender. In the late sixties or early seventies, a few of the EB series basses came long scale, (EB-3L, EB-0L). I'm not to up on many of the newer models, but all of Gibson's basses were short scale, with the exception of the Thunderbird.
